The Appellations of Monterey

07 June, 2012

Great wines are grown in the vineyard. One of the old axioms of winemaking is "You can make poor wine from great grapes, but you can't make fine wine from poor grapes!"

Some of our fruit is produced in the Southern Monterey County, the focus of our winemaking efforts being the San Antonio Valley AVA. This new AVA, which is a Mountain Valley in the Santa Lucia Range (see map), is becoming renowned for producing excellent quality warm climate, “Boudreaux and Rhone” grape varieties that produce intense flavored, full bodied red and white wines of exceptional character.

To taste the grapes from this area, you can sample our Lido Bay Mercenary line of wines: our 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2009 Petite Sirah, 2009 Syrah and our 2009 Zinfandel. These dark wines push the boundaries of great taste and take no prisoners!
